We arrived late, the way you always arrive in Positano — down a road too narrow for the bus, past bougainvillea that has been growing over the same wall since before anyone thought to photograph it.
I packed almost nothing. One pair of hoops, a fine chain, and the anklet that has now been in the sea more times than I have. That turned out to be exactly enough. There is something about a place that bright that makes anything heavy feel like an apology.
The rule I came home with: bring the pieces you would not think twice about wearing into water. Everything else stays in the drawer at home, waiting for a winter that will appreciate it more.
